Dazed and sitting in his car in a roadside ditch, images of the deer, shattering glass and rollover were a blur to Jax Kerr.

His body still was secured with a seat belt in the sedan, and the activated air bag helped to further cushion his 6-foot-11 frame.

Kerr’s mind was trying to make sense of what had happened when he realized his face was covered in blood. Virtually every window in the car was destroyed, including glass of the sun roof above his head. Did anyone even know he was there — in the darkness of rural Owes, Oklahoma?
