Catching and softball already were part of Abby Mallo’s life when her 12-year-old self happened upon another interest that would help to land her at Saint Louis University.

A childhood friend was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, of which she had no understanding. But the more she learned, the more her interest in science was triggered.
